Job summary

East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office seeks a DFR Pilot to provide rapid aerial response and situational awareness for deputies in the field. The role requires monitoring 911/CAD activity, remote drone deployment, and coordination with RTIC during incidents.

Applicants must be POST certified, hold or obtain FAA Part 107 within 6 months, and be able to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends. Training and experience in public safety drone operations are preferred.

Qualifications

• POST certification required.
• Must hold FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or obtain within six months.
• Willing to complete agency UAS and DFR training.
• Available to work rotating shifts including days, nights, weekends, holidays.
• Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-demand environment with multiple systems (CAD, 911, radio, mapping, drone).
• Strong communication and sound decision-making under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Monitor active 911 calls and CAD activity for potential drone deployments.
• Remotely deploy and operate DFR aircraft in response to calls for service.
• Provide real-time intelligence to deputies prior to and during arrival on scene.
• Assist in locating suspects, vehicles, missing persons, and other objects of interest.
• Relay critical information including suspect descriptions, direction of travel, hazards, and scene conditions.
• Respond to deputy backup requests and assist in aerial-supported operations.
• Coordinate with RTIC to maintain an operational picture during incidents.
• Support pursuits, perimeter operations, searches, critical incidents, and special events.
• Maintain FAA regulations, agency policy, and DFR procedures.
• Complete flight logs, equipment checks, and ongoing training requirements.
