Kaiser Permanente is seeking an on-call First Cook in Los Angeles. The role involves preparing food for patients and cafeteria, ensuring sanitation, and following safety standards. Ideal candidates should have a High School diploma, cooking experience, and preferably a Culinary Arts degree. This entry-level position offers flexible working hours and may include various shifts within the hospital's food service environment.
Job Summary
Under immediate supervision, prepares conventional and convenience type foods following established procedures for patients and cafeteria. Uses preparation equipment as necessary. Maintains sanitation of food service work areas and stations.
Essential Responsibilities
Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and applicable laws. Adheres to proper food handling and personal hygiene standards. Requisitions or procures food supplies as per guidelines. Prepares foods according to production sheets and orders for distribution to tray line, cafeteria, and catering, following safety and sanitation policies. Replenishes food items as needed. Cleans and sanitizes work areas and utensils, and manages waste disposal.
Experience
Basic Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience. Minimum six months of cook experience in a restaurant, hospital, or institutional food service using standard equipment (grill, oven, fryer, etc.). Ability to grill, fry, roast, and bake. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English.
Education
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
Additional Requirements
Preferred Qualifications: Culinary Arts Degree or AA in Institutional Food Preparation preferred. Knowledge of hospital food service operations is also preferred.
