Job summary

Proception Inc. is seeking a highly motivated intern to join the embedded systems team in Mountain View, CA. You will develop real-time firmware and low-level control software for robotic gloves and hands, focusing on motor control, sensor interfaces, and hardware validation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience programming in Rust; embedded Rust preferred. Understanding of Rust fundamentals: borrowing, aliasing, async/await, traits, generics.
• Understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, timers, DMA, and real-time constraints.
• Strong understanding of different synchronization primitives.
• Familiarity with CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, or other embedded communication protocols.
• Comfort debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, and serial tools.
• Experience with Embassy, RTIC, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar RTOS/async embedded frameworks.
• Knowledge of BLDC motor control, FOC, current sensing, or encoder interfaces.
• Experience with CANopen CiA 402, EtherCAT, or bootloaders.
• Python or C/C++ experience for test automation and integration.
• TypeScript + React for GUIs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and debug Rust firmware for motor controllers, sensor interfaces, and embedded communications.
• Implement and optimize deterministic control loops, state machines, and calibration workflows.
• Integrate tactile, force, IMU, encoder, and position sensors into real-time embedded systems.
• Build test utilities and diagnostics for board bring-up, manufacturing checks, and hardware-in-the-loop validation.
• Collaborate with EE, mechanical, controls, and AI teams to improve system performance and reliability.
• A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
• A portfolio is recommended where relevant.
• Interview process: two technical interviews and one CEO interview.

• 01 Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
