Job summary

Proception Inc. in Mountain View is seeking a Mechatronics Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Engineering Intern for a 6-12 month program.

You will help design and build HIL test setups for actuators, sensors, and motor controllers, blending mechanical fixtures, electronics, and firmware tools to accelerate safe, observable robotics iteration. You will create automated test procedures, analyze results, and document findings while collaborating with mechanical, EE, firmware, and controls teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechatronics, Robotics, ME, or EE.
• Hands-on experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems.
• Experience writing Python, Rust, C/C++ for test automation or data collection.
• Comfort using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DAQ systems.
• Strong experimental judgment, documentation habits, and root-cause problem solving.
• Plus: HIL/SIL test systems, automated regression testing, or hardware CI.
• Plus: motor control, CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, ROS/ROS2, or real-time systems.
• Plus: designing test fixtures, harnesses, or safety systems.
• Familiarity with data analysis and visualization in Python.

Responsibilities

• Design and build hardware-in-the-loop test setups for actuators, sensors, motor controllers, and integrated robotic mechanisms.
• Create automated test procedures for functional, performance, reliability, and regression testing.
• Develop fixtures, harnesses, instrumentation layouts, and data-acquisition workflows.
• Analyze test data, isolate failures, and communicate clear findings to mechanical, EE, firmware, and controls teams.
• Improve test coverage and repeatability through scripting, calibration, documentation, and safety interlocks.
• A Proception employee will reach out directly to schedule additional interviews.
• A portfolio is recommended where relevant.
• Interview process: two technical interviews and one CEO interview.

Join our validation team to build the hardware-in-the-loop infrastructure that makes robotic systems safer, more observable, and faster to iterate. You will combine mechanical fixtures, electronics, firmware tools, and automated test workflows to characterize subsystems and full robotic assemblies.

Requirements

• 01 Pursuing a BS or MS in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 02 Hands-on experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and embedded systems.
• 03 Experience writing Python, Rust, C/C++, or similar code for test automation or data collection.
