Proception Inc. invites applications for an Embedded Linux Intern – Rust / Real-Time Linux to join our platform software team in Mountain View. You will work close to hardware on real-time communication, device integration, observability, and robust deployment using Rust and modern Linux tooling.

The role targets BS/MS students in CS/CE/EE/Robotics, with strong Rust on Linux and OS concepts. Collaboration across software, firmware, and hardware drives this fast-moving robotics environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS or MS in CS, CE, EE, robotics or related field.
• Strong Rust programming skills and Linux comfort.
• Understanding OS processes, threads, networking, memory management.
• Experience debugging with shell tools, logs, gdb, perf or tracing.
• Ability to work across software and hardware in robotics.
• Nice-to-have PREEMPT_RT, kernel config, drivers, Yocto/Buildroot.
• Nice-to-have EtherCAT, SocketCAN, ROS/ROS2, or robotic middleware.
• Nice-to-have async Rust, Tokio, embedded-hal, or observability.
• Nice-to-have CI, container builds, hardware test automation.

Responsibilities

• Develop Rust services and low-level components for embedded Linux robots.
• Integrate fieldbus and device interfaces: CAN, EtherCAT, serial, SPI, Ethernet.
• Measure latency, scheduling, startup reliability, and fault recovery on RT Linux.
• Build diagnostics, logging, telemetry, and test tools for bring-up and debugging.
• Collaborate with firmware, controls, and hardware teams on subsystems.

Embedded Linux Intern – Rust / Real-Time Linux (6-12 months)

Join our platform software team to build the Linux-based embedded systems that coordinate humanoid robot subsystems. You will work close to the hardware on real-time communication, device integration, observability, and robust deployment using Rust and modern Linux tooling.

Requirements

• 01 Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
• 02 Strong Rust programming skills and comfort developing on Linux.
• 03 Understanding of operating systems concepts: processes, threads, synchronization, networking, and memory management.
• 04 Experience debugging systems with shell tools, logs, gdb, perf, tracing, or equivalent tooling.
• 05 Ability to work across software and physical hardware in a fast-moving robotics environment.
• 06 (+) Experience with PREEMPT_RT, kernel configuration, device drivers, or Yocto/Buildroot.
• 07 (+) Experience with EtherCAT, SocketCAN, CANopen, ROS/ROS2, or robotic middleware.
• 08 (+) Experience with async Rust, Tokio, embedded-hal, or systems observability.
• 09 (+) Familiarity with CI, containerized builds, and hardware test automation.

Details & responsibilities

• 01 Develop Rust services and low-level components for embedded Linux robotic controllers.
• 02 Integrate fieldbus and device interfaces, including CAN/CAN-FD, EtherCAT, serial, SPI, and Ethernet-based systems.
• 03 Measure and improve latency, scheduling behavior, startup reliability, and fault recovery on real-time Linux platforms.
• 04 Build diagnostics, logging, telemetry, and test tools for system bring-up and field debugging.
• 05 Collaborate with firmware, controls, and hardware teams to integrate multi-actuator robot subsystems.
