Job summary

AMD is seeking MS students to contribute to firmware and embedded software during co-op/intern terms in the San Jose area. You will work full time (40 hours/week) in hybrid or onsite settings, tackling pre-silicon development, firmware design, and hardware-software debugging alongside experienced engineers.

You'll gain exposure to AGILE processes, code reviews, and documentation, with chances to engage in x86 firmware work and hardware validation on reference platforms.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a US-based university in a Master's program (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field).
• Knowledge of BIOS/firmware or system software development is a plus.
• Experience with C/C++ and hardware architectures.
• Experience with embedded systems, RTOS, and embedded controller structures.
• Familiarity with source control, debuggers, compilers, and end-to-end debugging from software to firmware to hardware.
• Awareness of Open Source concepts.
• Knowledge of VHDL/Verilog/FPGA and general hardware design concepts.
• Experience with Linux development environments.
• Understanding of graphics/compute pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Craft, implement, debug, and validate features on reference hardware and software, pre-silicon emulation and simulation environments.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews and project planning.
• Build clear documentation for all software produced.
• Work on internal and external platforms.
• Learn and apply AGILE methodologies and standard software engineering processes.
• You may be involved in x86 firmware development, Embedded Firmware + Bootrom/HW, and FW/HW debugging with waveform analysis.
