Job summary

Qualitrol, a leading provider of monitoring and protection devices for high‑value electrical assets, seeks a Firmware Engineer in Fairport, NY. You will work on real‑time embedded systems and Linux RTOS, handling data acquisition and post‑processing for transformer monitoring at substations.

You will design, implement, test, and maintain firmware, coordinate development activities, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on embedded systems design, development, testing, and debugging.
• Strong experience with microcontroller/microprocessor-based systems and real‑time multi-threaded environments.
• Proficiency in Embedded C/C++ and peripheral interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI).
• Experience with Modbus, DNP3, IEC60870, IEC61850, Ethernet, SCADA, and Linux/Windows environments.
• Knowledge of unit testing frameworks for Linux and device driver programming.

Responsibilities

• Embedded systems and firmware development with emphasis on Linux and real-time embedded environments.
• Develop advanced firmware solutions for substation monitoring and diagnosis requirements.
• Coordinate firmware development activities and lead quality and scheduling projects.
• Support development team with pre-qualification, verification testing, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist product transitions to mass manufacturing and support post-release customer needs.
• Apply Scrum/Agile methodologies and continuously improve software processes.
