Job summary

Experis is seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer for our Fairport, NY onsite opportunity. You will design and implement firmware for Linux-based real-time embedded systems used in substation monitoring and diagnostics, and drive hardware-software integration.

You will lead firmware development activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and support mass manufacturing transitions. Collaborate across teams using Scrum/Agile while delivering robust, testable code and scalable device drivers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on embedded systems design, development, testing, and debugging.
• Strong experience with microcontroller/microprocessor-based systems.
• Expertise in Embedded C/C++ in real-time, multi-threaded environments.
• Proficient with UART, I2C, SPI interfaces.
• Experience with Modbus, DNP3, IEC60870/IEC61850, Ethernet, SCADA.
• Embedded Linux and Windows environments, RT data acquisition & scheduling.
• Knowledge of Linux unit testing frameworks.
• Device driver programming experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded firmware for Linux-based real-time systems.
• Lead firmware development activities and schedule coordination.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and pre-qualification testing.
• Support transition to mass manufacturing.
• Collaborate with sales/support post-release to meet customer needs.
• Follow SDLC processes and apply Scrum Agile methodologies.
