Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for digitally controlled power supplies, heater controllers, and advanced process control systems. The role emphasizes PID control, digital power conversion, AI-assisted predictive loops, and integration with PLC/SCADA environments.

You will work with a small, multidisciplinary team from concept through validation and release, with emphasis on robust hardware-software integration and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical/Control Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years embedded firmware experience in power electronics or embedded systems; 6+ preferred.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for real-time systems.
• Experience with PID control, thermal regulation, and digital control loops.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for power supplies and heater controllers.
• Develop firmware features including monitoring, diagnostics, and communication.
• Implement control algorithms and closed-loop temperature control using PID and model-based techniques.
• Interface firmware with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Modbus, and other protocols.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define MCU/DSP/SoC requirements.
• Perform firmware debugging, validation, and optimization with test equipment.
• Develop unit tests and system tests for firmware quality and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain firmware design documentation and participate in design reviews.
