Job summary

Allegion, a global leader in security products, invites a Summer Intern – Firmware Engineer to contribute to the firmware/embedded software team at Farmington. You will develop, debug and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products, supporting hardware bring-up and collaborating with hardware, test, and manufacturing teams.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a related degree and have strong C programming skills, plus familiarity with embedded microprocessors, IDEs and basic electronics.

Qualifications

• Pursuing degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Demonstrated leadership in school clubs, sports teams, or projects.
• Preferred knowledge of C programming language.
• Preferred knowledge of embedded microprocessors and their IDE/tools.
• Basic electronics understanding, including low voltage wiring.
• Hands-on engineering mindset and lab work readiness.
• Ability to work both in teams and independently.
• Resilience and adaptability in fast-changing environments.
• Willingness to learn and grow with Allegion.

Responsibilities

• Develop, debug, and test embedded firmware for microcontroller-based products.
• Participate in requirements definition and design discussions for new firmware features and updates.
• Implement and maintain device drivers and communication stacks (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, BLE as applicable).
• Work with RTOS and bare-metal architectures as required by product designs.
• Support hardware bring-up and verification using debuggers (JTAG/SWD), logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Design tools to measure and analyze existing and new products.
• Participate in code reviews, version control workflows, and CI/build processes.
• Document firmware design, test procedures, release notes, and SOPs.
• Utilize diagrams and charts to aid product development.
• Collaborate with a team to create well-rounded solutions.
