Job summary

Samsara is seeking a firmware engineering intern to develop software for gateway and sensor devices. You will evaluate hardware components, bring up new platforms, and build data collection systems across thousands of devices.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with MCU development environments, RTOS concepts, and sensor integrations, while collaborating with product and quality teams in a fast-paced, hybrid SF office setting.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Must have solid C programming skills and familiarity with embedded concepts.
• Experience with MCU development environments and tools is a plus.
• Experience with bare metal or RTOS-based systems (e.g., Zephyr/FreeRTOS) is valued.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with firmware engineers to design, develop and maintain embedded software for gateway and sensor products.
• Bring up new hardware platforms, configure I/O and debugging interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC).
• Implement peripheral drivers, secure bootloaders, and device firmware update logic.
• Design energy-efficient hardware management to optimize battery-powered sensors and gateways.
• Work cross-functionally with product, full-stack and quality teams to ensure reliability.
