Job summary

Actalent seeks a Firmware Engineer to design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for digitally controlled power supplies and heater controllers. You will implement PID and adaptive control loops, interface with Pbus/Modbus and other protocols, and collaborate with hardware teams to define MCU/SoC requirements.

The role involves testing, validation, and contributing to AI-assisted predictive control efforts.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years embedded firmware experience in power electronics or embedded systems; 6+ years preferred.
• Proficiency in C and C++ for real-time embedded systems.
• Experience with PID control, thermal regulation, and digital control loops.
• Familiar with power-supply topologies (buck, boost, flyback, LLC) and power electronics concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for power supplies and controller systems.
• Develop firmware features including monitoring, diagnostics, and communication functions with revision control.
• Design and implement control algorithms including PID, current-mode control, voltage and thermal regulation.
• Interface firmware with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, PMBus, Ethernet, Modbus and other protocols.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to define MCU/SoC requirements and integrate firmware with PCB layouts.
• Debug, validate, and optimize firmware using oscilloscope, logic analyzers, and test equipment.
• Develop unit tests and system tests; ensure compliance with UL/IEC standards.
• Document firmware design, specs, and procedures; participate in design reviews and architecture decisions.
• Support AI-assisted predictive control loops for power electronics and thermal systems.
