- Must be at least 20 years and 6 months old, and, unless otherwise provided by law, under 35 years of age at the date of exam. Must be 21 years old by the time of hire.
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or equivalent
- National or State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) or Paramedic (EMT-P)
- Must have one of the following:
- Associate’s degree or at least 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university
- National or State of Illinois licensed Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (EMT-P)
- IL Office of the State Fire Marshal Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter certification
- Vision correctable to 20/40, normal peripheral vision, and ability to distinguish colors
- Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb Certification obtained within 12 months prior to the examination date
Required Documentation due by 4:00 p.m. on 5/22/2025:
- Online application submission (available after purchase)
- Release forms, waivers, and application selection sheet (available after purchase)
- Copy of high school diploma/GED
- Copy of valid driver’s license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship (county/state birth record, passport, or naturalization papers)
- Copy of EMT-B or EMT-P license
- Copy of official college transcripts showing proof of an Associate’s Degree or 60 semester credit hours from an accredited college/university, and copies of IDPH EMT-P or OSFM FFII/Basic Operations certificate
- Copy of CPAT/Ladder Climb test results dated no earlier than June 21, 2024
Orientation and Testing Information:
Mandatory orientation and written examination are scheduled for Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Glenbrook North High School, Northbrook, IL. Specific testing details will be provided to eligible candidates. Attendance and successful completion of all testing portions are required; failure will result in elimination from consideration.
