The City of Montgomery Fire Department is seeking entry-level firefighters to combat fires, extinguish blazes, and prevent emergencies. You will operate and maintain fire suppression equipment, participate in daily training, inspect and maintain gear, and support fire safety activities under supervision.
Applicants must be at least 18, complete the 16-week recruit school, pass physical exams and background checks, and adhere to strict tobacco and drug-testing policies as part of City employment.
This is entry-level firefighting work combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and operating and maintaining fire suppression apparatus and equipment. Work requires strenuous physical exertion under adverse conditions such as hazardous materials or cramped surroundings. Employees are also responsible for participating in daily training activities, inspecting and maintaining equipment and apparatus and cleaning and maintaining quarters. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Fire Lieutenant or Captain.
Must complete 16 weeks of training in the Montgomery Fire Department Recruit School.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must meet requirements of physical exam and the Fire Department's weight requirements. Applicants shall be 18 years of age at the time of employment. Must be of good moral character and have no record of convictions of a misdemeanor or felony involving violence, force, or moral turpitude. NOTE: A complete and thorough background investigation will be conducted on all candidates before employment. Beginning on the date of employment, Firefighters are NOT to smoke tobacco products or use smokeless tobacco at ANY time (on or off duty). Employment with the City of Montgomery is conditioned upon the potential employee passing a pre-employment drug test. (The drug test will require the submission of a sample of hair, fingernails, and/or urine that will verify illegal drug.)
