Job summary

The City of Washington is seeking a dedicated firefighter to perform general firefighting and EMT basic/advanced care at scenes. You will prepare apparatus, fight fires, and maintain equipment, while handling stressful emergency conditions with sound judgment.

Essential duties include responding to alarms, operating EMS equipment, assisting with inspections, and engaging with the public. A valid NC driver's license and ongoing training are required, with certifications pursued within 12 months

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain Firefighter I & II within 12 months of employment.
• If NC EMT is held but Firefighter I & II are not, obtain Firefighter I & II within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fires and emergencies; provide life support per patient assessment.
• Respond to alarms; assist in fire suppression, rescue, entry and salvage.
• Operate fire and EMS equipment as certified.
• Participate in post-incident cleaning and salvage operations.
• Complete records and reports for fire and emergency calls, including billing information.
• Report equipment and facility maintenance issues to authority.
• Perform routine maintenance and service of equipment and hoses.
• Conduct in-service fire prevention inspections as certified.
• Assist with fire inspections and hazard surveys.
• Participate in public education and public relations activities.
• May drive/operate apparatus as qualified.
• Attend in-service classes to maintain knowledge of fire suppression and EMS tech.
• Clean station interior; conduct tours and explain apparatus to the public.
• Participate in physical fitness training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
