Job summary

The City of Katy is seeking a Firefighter to respond to a range of emergencies, protecting lives and property in Katy. You will perform high-risk procedures, operate firefighting equipment, and engage in continuous training to uphold readiness.

As a firefighter, you will administer emergency medical treatments, conduct inspections, and provide fire prevention education to the community. Certification and fitness requirements are essential, with a focus on teamwork and safe, effective operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; AND possession of, or the ability to obtain required certifications; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of fire behaviors and suppression methods; safety policies and regulations; emergency services laws and practices.
• Skill in remaining calm under pressure, establishing relationships, clear communication, and analyzing incidents.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency dispatch calls including fire alarms, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues, vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies.
• Drives fire apparatus and operates equipment for firefighting, rescue, and maintenance; applies suppression techniques and performs rescues.
• Initiates emergency medical treatments; starts IV, may intubate patients and administer drugs as appropriate.
• Debriefs and documents incidents thoroughly for reports and records.
• Participates in cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of fire station and equipment.
• Verifies PPE is clean, undamaged, and properly staged for quick access.
