Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Project Manager to oversee design, scheduling, construction, inspection, and delivery of fire protection projects from conception to completion.

You will manage costs, coordinate with field staff, suppliers, AHJs, and customers, and mentor junior designers while ensuring compliance with Texas codes and NFPA standards. A Texas RME-General license and strong AutoCAD skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Active Texas RME-General license.
  • 5+ years of job design and project management experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and HydraCAD/AutoSprink.
  • NICET Level III or IV preferred.
  • Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • System Design & layout: Create CAD design drawings and hydraulic calculations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Apply Texas Department of Insurance rules and NFPA/IFC/IBC codes.
  • Project Oversight: Review shop drawings, coordinate material lists, manage costs and deadlines.
  • Field Supervision: Supervise installations, oversee testing, and sign off on certificates.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor junior sprinkler designers and coordinate with contractors/AHJs.
  • Cost management: Manage change orders and billings.
  • Site surveys, commissioning and owner training.
  • Foster relationships with customers, contractors and colleagues.

The Fire Sprinkler Project Manager holds overall management responsibility for all aspects of fire protection construction projects from conception through systems functioning. This role will oversee or conduct design, scheduling, planning, actual construction, expediting, inspection, quality control, and total delivery of the project according to established criteria. Responsible for tracking, forecasting, and communicating all costs, profits, and financial measures of the project. Through coordination with the site superintendent, they will organize and manage all the elements involved in construction such as labor, temporary and permanent materials, equipment, supplies, utilities, and time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • System Design & layout: Create CAD design drawings and perform hydraulic calculations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and apply Texas Department of Insurance (.gov) rules, NFPA, IFC, IBC, and local codes.
  • Project Oversight: Review shop drawings, coordinate material lists, manage project costs, and meet delivery deadlines.
  • Field Supervision: Supervise field installations, oversee system testing, and sign off on contractor's material and test certificates.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor junior sprinkler designers and coordinate with contractors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Material buyout and product selection
  • Scheduling and labor coordination with both office and field personnel alike
  • Document control, contract scope review and maintain records of the project for both current and future use
  • Communicate and attend weekly design and project management meetings
  • Cost management, including identifying changes to the project scope that impact costs as well as ensure change orders and billings are submitted and paid in a timely manner
  • Assist with development, suitability and implementation of Risk Hazard Analyses
  • Conduct site surveys, onsite commissioning and owners training
  • Foster strong working relationships and rapport with customers, clients, subcontractors and colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned
Education & Qualifications
  • Must hold an active Texas RME-General license issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
  • NICET Level III or IV certification in Fire Protection Engineering Technology / Automatic Sprinkler System Layout preferred.
  • Strong expertise in AutoCAD and specialized layout software like HydraCAD, AutoSprink, and AutoCAD preferred.
  • At least 5 years of job design and project management experience required
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or other applicable degree from a technical school or college preferred
  • Working knowledge of fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems preferred, but not required
  • NICET Water Based System I, II, or III preferred
