Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Mesquite, TX is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Designer to create layout drawings for commercial, industrial and residential systems. You will ensure code compliance with NFPA and local codes, and coordinate with engineers, project managers, and contractors to meet safety standards and client requirements.

Proficiency with HydraCAD/AutoCAD, hydraulic calculations, blueprints interpretation, and BIM or Revit is preferred.

Qualifications

• Active RME-G license required by the state fire marshal.
• NICET Level III/IV in fire protection preferred.
• Engineering/drafting degree or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of fire sprinkler design experience (HydraCAD/AutoSprink/AutoCAD).
• Experience with Autodesk suite (AutoCAD/Revit/Navisworks/BIM 360) and MS Office.
• Good math and physics understanding related to hydraulics.

Responsibilities

• Apply fire protection codes and standards to sprinkler system design.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical reports.
• Develop working layouts and final master drawings.
• Coordinate with engineers/consultants and stakeholders.
• Monitor fabrication, installation issues, and inspection comments.
• Design automatic sprinkler, standpipe, pumps, and underground systems.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare material lists.
• Assist with proposal documents and technical data.
• Ensure compliance with NFPA and local building codes.
• Analyze information to find cost-effective, material-efficient solutions.
• Site surveys with ladder/steps as needed.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

The Fire Sprinkler Designer will design and prepare layout drawings for fire sprinkler systems in commercial, industrial and/or residential settings. The ideal candidate will have a RME-G license, strong understanding of fire protection codes, hydraulic calculations and CAD software. The Fire Sprinkler Designer will work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors and other partners to ensure all systems meet safety standards and client requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Apply fire protection codes and standards to the design of fire sprinkler systems, water supplies, pumps, standpipes, foam systems, and water storage tanks.

• Read and interpret Architectural, Structural, and MEP blueprints/PDF’s, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.

• Perform preliminary and advanced work in development of working layouts and final master drawings.

• Confer with engineers/consultants or other personnel to layout a code-compliant fire sprinkler system.

• Coordinate and monitor aspects of production, including fabrication, installation issues, and inspection comments.

• Design automatic fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, and underground systems

• Perform and analyze hydraulic calculations, plot plans, and stock-list/fabricate material for the job site.

• Assist with the preparation of proposal documents, technical data such as test procedures, reports, maintenance manuals, etc.

• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes (NFPA, local/state fire codes, building codes).

• Analyze information and evaluate the results to solve problems and choose cost effective and material efficient solutions.

• Walk sites for site surveys where there may be long periods of standing as well as climbing and descending of ladders/steps

• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education/Qualifications:

• Must hold an active RME-General license issued by the State Fire Marshal’s office (RME-G).

• NICET Level III or IV in Fire Protection Engineering Technology/Automatic Sprinkler System Layout preferred.

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, drafting or related field is preferred.

• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in fire sprinkler design such as HydraCAD, AutoSprink, and AutoCAD strongly preferred.

• Experience using Microsoft Office and computer aided design (CAD) software — Autodesk AutoCAD; Autodesk Revit; Autodesk Navisworks; BIM 360 preferred.

• Basic understanding of mathematics and physics, relevant to design and hydraulics.

Physical Requirements:

• Job duties could require walking and standing for long periods of time, climbing and descending ladders/steps for site surveys.

• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
