Job summary

Johnson Controls is hiring a Fire Sprinkler Inspector 2 in California. You will conduct routine inspections, testing, and maintenance on sprinkler and life-safety systems while ensuring safety and quality.

The role requires physical capability, willingness to travel, and adherence to schedules. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, NICET I/II or progress toward them, and the ability to obtain necessary licenses.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • NICET I certification and NICET II certification or ability to obtain within stated timelines.
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses required by codes.
  • Experience reading blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, manuals.
  • Able to lift 50–70 lbs and perform physical labor.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain life safety product lines (Electrical, Sprinkler, or Suppression).
  • Meet customer expectations with quality inspections.
  • Document deficiencies accurately.
  • Carry out inspections with proper coding using devices.
  • Follow a structured inspection schedule.
  • Make minor repairs and programming changes.
  • Travel as required and work nights/weekends as needed.

Description

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines

How you will do it
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections

  • Accurately discern and document deficiencies found during an inspection

  • Professionally represent the company at all times

  • Complete Service Acknowledgement/inspections with proper coding through communicating devices, such as laptop computers, smartphones, and/or hardcopy

  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule

  • Make minor repairs and programming changes to systems being inspected.

  • Complete assigned inspections on time

  • Perform other duties as directed

  • Carry/move equipment and tools weighing up to 70lbs and be capable of performing physical labor

  • Assist foreman in the installation of wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems

  • Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment

  • Be enrolled in Grinnell's approved Apprenticeship Program, maintaining all requirements of the Apprenticeship Standards

  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to learn quickly

What we look for
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • NICET I certification or ability to obtain within 8 months of hire.

  • NICET II certification or ability to obtain within 24 months of hire.

  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs, schematics and operational/product manuals.

  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.

  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.

  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including on-call rotation, nights, and weekends to meet customer requirements.

  • Willing to travel out of town.

  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.

  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.

  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.

  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $23.51 - $32.31 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
