Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Sprinkler Inspector in Norfolk to perform testing and documentation of fire protection systems per NFPA standards. You will inspect, test, and service water-based systems, ensuring safety and compliance while following a strict inspection schedule.

The role requires 3–5 years of sprinkler experience, ability to read blueprints, and physical ability to handle equipment. A valid driver’s license and on-call availability are expected as part of the job.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience with sprinkler systems.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Able to read and interpret technical and parts manuals to diagnose and repair equipment.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50-70 pounds.
  • Must be able to work on lifts and ladders.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Must be available to participate in a scheduled after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.

  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding via laptops or paper.
  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.
  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documentation program via laptop.
  • Complete assigned inspections on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will do

Fire Sprinkler Inspectors are responsible for the testing and documenting the results of fire protection systems according to NFPA standards.

How you will do it
  • Responsible for meeting customer expectations while performing quality inspections.

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, servicing, and preventative maintenance on water based systems and/or sprinkler systems.

  • Learn to complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices, such as laptop computers and/or hard copy.

  • Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule.

  • Input, retrieve and archive inspection documentation program via the laptop computer.

  • Complete assigned inspections on time.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.06 - $39.04 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
