The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Fire Safety Inspector to inspect University facilities for compliance with the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code and address life safety issues.
The role collaborates with the Director of Fire Safety & Prevention/Fire Marshal to develop and implement fire safety programs and coordinate events to ensure the safety of the University community.
The Fire Safety & Prevention Division with the Department of Safety & Security (DSS) is seeking to fill the position of Fire Safety Inspector. This position is responsible for inspecting University facilities to ensure each area meets the standards set forth in the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code and properly address life safety issues. The Fire Safety Inspector also assists the Director of Fire Safety & Prevention/Fire Marshal in developing and implementing programs that address fire safety and related issues and coordinates and conducts special events related to fire safety to ensure the safety of the University community.
Successful applicants must have excellent organizational skills, pay attention to detail, have the ability to work independently and on teams of diverse individuals and be able to handle and prioritize competing deadlines and concurrent events. Applicants must also have relevant experience dealing with the public and possess or be able to obtain a Fire Inspector Certification (Virginia 1031).
The Fire Safety Inspectors are required to perform their duties in all locations across Grounds and the Medical Center and includes either sitting, standing, traveling or driving for extended periods of time. Fire Safety Inspectors are required to do moderate-heavy lifting, including lifting 50 lbs.
Salary Range: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
