Job summary

City of Killeen Fire & Rescue invites applications for the Firefighter position at our station. You will perform firefighting, emergency medical, and fire prevention duties and help maintain equipment and facilities.

Responsibilities include driving apparatus, operating pumps, protecting lives, and participating in drills. Applicants must have a high school diploma, Basic Firefighter certification, EMT eligibility, and a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18–36 years old by date of hire.
• Must be Basic Firefighter certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License without suspension.
• If employee is certified Firefighter prior to hire, must obtain a Texas Class B license within 15 days of hire.
• Must not have felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories.
• Must be able to read and write English proficiently.
• Must meet Civil Service requirements and pass entry-level fire examination.
• Must pass a medical exam including vision/hearing tests and a drug test; psychological test may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform firefighting duties including driving apparatus, operating pumps, laying hose, and extinguishing fires.
• Administer first aid and assist in emergencies.
• Participate in drills and trainings on firefighting, EMT, hazardous materials and related subjects.
• Operate radio and other communication equipment.
• Inspect buildings, hydrants, and participate in fire prevention programs.
• Maintain fire equipment and perform minor repairs.
• Perform general station maintenance and salvage operations.
