Job summary

Black & Veatch Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern – Fire Protection in Overland Park, Kansas. This paid intern position focuses on supporting fire protection projects within the Buildings sub-discipline, contributing to HVAC, plumbing, and related systems design.

As a student in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, you will gain hands-on experience through diverse project work, collaborate with engineers, and learn from senior professionals while supporting real infrastructure

Qualifications

• No experience required; currently enrolled in ABET-accredited Mechanical or Chemical Engineering program.
• Strength in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication and solid math skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and design specifications and contract drawings.
• Design HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, standby power, flood control systems, and other disciplines.
• Support engineering analyses, report production, and designs.
• Prepare basic calculations and assist in equipment selection.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and collect/evaluate data.
