Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Investigate fires in residential, commercial, and industrial settings involving fire protection or life safety systems such as water-based fire sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action), commercial kitchen fire suppression, exhaust systems, special hazard systems (gaseous, chemical, foam), fire detection, and smoke alarms.
- Perform field investigations and forensic analysis of incidents involving fire protection systems.
- Evaluate post-accident scenarios involving fire spread and egress.
- Consult with clients on building and life safety codes.
- Conduct unbiased investigations for various clients.
- Develop and maintain client relationships.
- Present technical findings in layman's terms both verbally and in reports.
- Support legal proceedings with expert testimony.
- Deliver professional presentations, build client relationships, and promote the firm.
- Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and societies.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering; Master's in Fire Protection Engineering preferred.
- P.E. registration or ability to obtain it.
- IAAI-CFI or CFEI certifications or ability to acquire them.
- Fire investigation experience or eagerness to learn.
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, building construction, and codes.
- Fire modeling experience is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years in fire protection engineering industry.
- Forensic experience or exposure is advantageous.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Travel up to 25%.
- Ability to maneuver at accident sites.
- Lift up to 40 lbs.
- Drive to sites at unpredictable times.
- Travel by airline as needed.
- Effective communication with clients and colleagues.
- Wear PPE as required.
