Job summary

Fire Protection Engineer Intern at BWXT in Lynchburg, VA. On-site internship (Summer 2027) lasting approximately 10–12 weeks with a housing stipend for interns whose home is more than 50 miles away. You will learn basic Fire Protection principles, assist with audits, procedures, and emergency plans, and present results to leadership. Eligible interns must be enrolled in an engineering/technical program and be a U.S. citizen.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in B.S. or MS degree in Engineering/Technical/Science with focus in Fire Protection.
• Must be US Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

• Mentored in Fire Protection principles and analytical methodologies.
• Review and update Fire Protection and Industrial Health & Safety Technical Work Records.
• Overview fire protection systems, inspect occupancy, life safety code enforcement, sprinkler design reviews, hydraulic calculations.
• Support Emergency Team readiness and participate in facility audits.
