Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) invites applications for a Fire Protection Engineer Intern based onsite in Lynchburg, Virginia.

You will review fire protection systems, inspect occupancies, and contribute to life-safety code enforcement and design reviews. Qualifications include enrollment in a BS or MS in Engineering/Technical/Science with a focus on Fire Protection, US citizenship, and the ability to obtain a DOE security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in B.S. or MS degree in Engineering/Technical/Science with focus in Fire Protection.
  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Review and update Fire Protection and Industrial Health & Safety Technical Work Records.
  • Overview fire protection systems, inspect building occupancy, life safety code enforcement, sprinkler system design review, hydraulic calculations, and service water design review.
  • Support Emergency Team readiness; assist with fire protection equipment inspections; participate in audits of manufacturing facility; review, edit procedures and facility fire and emergency plans.

Your Day to Day as a Fire Protection Engineer Intern:
Duties
  • Review and update Fire Protection and Industrial Health & Safety Technical Work Records

  • Support Emergency Team readiness
    • Assist with fire protection equipment inspections.

Required Qualifications
  • Enrolled in B.S. or MS degree in Engineering/Technical/Science with focus in Fire Protection.
  • Must be US Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

Pay: $29.50

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) is expected to be $29.50 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
