Job summary

GBA offers a Fire Protection Engineering Intern position in Lenexa, KS. This internship provides hands‑on experience, exposure to fire protection and life safety systems, and collaboration with seasoned professionals in a rotational, mentorship‑driven environment.

Ideal candidates are pursuing an engineering degree, maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, and have familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office. Two years of coursework completed is expected.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS or MS in Architectural Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or related field.
• GPA 3.0 or higher strongly preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office preferred.
• Finished at least two years of school.
• Involved in campus, community and other activities; strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing designs, analyses, calculations, and models for fire protection systems and life safety.
• Assist with project site visits to observe construction and witness testing.
• Follow quality control processes and design standards.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams.
• Engage in mentorship from experienced engineers.

What You'll Do

As a Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you'll:

• Assist with preparing designs, analyses, calculations, and models related to fire protection systems, life safety systems, and passive fire protection building features.
• Assist with conducting project site visits to observe construction and witness system testing.
• Follow quality control processes and design standards.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplined design teams.
• Engage in an active learning environment with mentorship from experienced engineers.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

• Pursuing BS or MS in Architectural Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or another related engineering degree from accredited program.
• 3.0 GPA or higher strongly preferred
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office software is preferred
• Experience with architectural/architectural engineering projects or internships is preferred.
• Finished at least two years of school
• Involved in campus, community, and other volunteer activities and/ or organization
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk around the office for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
