Job summary

Procon Consulting seeks a skilled Fire Protection Engineer to join our federal-sector team, focusing on high-impact projects and life safety system design. The role emphasizes compliance with NFPA, ICC codes, and regulatory standards across project phases from design through commissioning.

The ideal candidate will bring 2–5 years FP&LS experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to travel up to 50% to project sites for inspections and surveys.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • 2–5 years of FP&LS design, design reviews, field surveys, inspections, or related services.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA standards, ICC Fire and Building Codes, and other applicable life safety regulations.
  • NICET and/or NFPA certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrated field experience with fire protection and life safety systems including fire alarm testing, inspections, and related activities.
  • Experience reviewing sprinkler designs, hydraulic calculations, and life safety documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret codes and standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and authorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and construction documents for compliance with fire protection and life safety codes.
  • Perform technical reviews of building and development plans for Life Safety Code, NFPA standards, ICC codes, and regulations.
  • Conduct fire protection and life safety surveys, audits, and assessments at facilities and construction sites.
  • Perform field inspections and site walk-throughs to verify materials, methods, and workmanship.
  • Review sprinkler system designs and hydraulic calculations for accuracy and code compliance.
  • Evaluate compliance of fire alarm, gaseous suppression, smoke control, and other protection features.
  • Prepare technical reports, inspection findings, survey documentation, and records.
  • Respond to client inquiries regarding fire prevention and life safety requirements.
  • Support project teams across K-12, federal, and commercial facilities through design, construction, testing, and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with engineers in charge to develop deliverables.
  • Lead and support fire protection initiatives and activities.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff and assist leadership when needed.
