Job summary

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is seeking a Fire Prevention Technician in Las Vegas, NV to support the Safety and Fire Prevention Section. You will inspect show areas for hazards, issue Hot Work permits, and maintain records for show-related operations.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED and at least two years in Fire Science/Safety, plus knowledge of codes and OSHA standards. Strong communication and computer skills are essential for daily coordination with contractors

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Two years of equivalent experience in a related Fire Science/ Safety field.
  • Working knowledge of fire prevention methodologies, fire and building codes, regulations, statutes and standards.
  • Working knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with peers, other departments/trades, management, outside contractors, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of computers.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects show areas, exhibits, lobby and meeting rooms for hazards and code violations. Documents and takes steps to correct violations.
  • Issues Hot Work permits for any work producing sparks or open flame not associated with show exhibits, including contractor work, Authority ambassador work and show move-in/move-out.
  • Registers, inspects, documents, maintains records, collects and delivers fees of all LVCVA bicycles and carts used on the property by decorators and EACs.
  • Conducts monthly visual inspections of the fire extinguishers and fire sprinkler risers. Inspects fire extinguishers monthly to verify that annual extinguisher service has not expired and that extinguishers are charged and functional. Inspects sprinkler riser valves to verify building fire sprinkler systems are functioning.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

POSTION EXPECTATIONS

The Fire Prevention Technician assists the Safety and Fire Prevention Section in reducing or eliminating risk to the building and occupants. This position identifies and eliminated hazards using relevant Authority policies, documents, fire codes, building codes and safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspects show areas, exhibits, lobby and meeting rooms for hazards and code violations. Documents and takes steps to correct violations.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
  • Must have a valid Nevada driver's license at the time of appointment and must maintain it during employment.
