Job summary

Salt Lake City Corporation seeks a Fire Prevention Specialist to support the Salt Lake City Fire Department. You will conduct inspections, enforce safety codes, and develop engaging life-safety education programs for the community.

You will advise on building safety, hazardous materials handling, and coordinate with public stakeholders while representing the department at events. A strong focus on communication and public interaction is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of experience in communications, fire, or related industries.
• Fire Inspector I certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Knowledge of fire prevention methods, building and fire codes, and the legal system as it affects enforcement.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints.
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with the public.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct general inspections for compliance with fire codes and laws and prepare reports.
• Advise public and agencies on fire prevention, code interpretation, life safety, and education.
• Represent the department at events and produce related materials.
• Research fire inspection, code development, and public information activities.
• Maintain liaison with fire department and other public safety agencies and provide training as required.
• Maintain effective communication with community and other departments to ensure coordination.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
