Job summary

The City of Kettering is seeking a part-time Fire Safety Inspector to issue permits, perform inspections, and educate the public on fire safety. You will identify and resolve violations of building and fire codes and provide information to owners and residents.

You must meet NFPA standards, hold required certifications, and be able to work with limited supervision while preparing clear technical reports. Valid Ohio driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of fire hazards and prevention techniques and applicable codes.
• Strong ability to prepare technical and administrative reports.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Issue fire permits and conduct inspections as assigned.
• Educate the public about fire safety and prevention.
• Identify, investigate and resolve code violations.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain records.
• Attend hearings and enforce City, state and national codes as needed.
• Work with limited supervision and coordinate with staff.
