Job summary

City of Belmont's Fire Department is seeking a qualified Fire Inspector to enforce fire codes, inspect commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, and review plans for fire code compliance. The role includes plan reviews, education, and coordinated investigations with the County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The incumbent will respond to emergencies, assist with fire prevention programs, and supervise inspection staff.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a community college with a degree in fire science and courses in fire inspection and prevention.
• Considerable experience in the fire service and/or fire inspections.
• Possession of Fire Inspector Standard Level III and relevant NC certifications (e.g., NC Firefighter, EV Driver, NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800).

Responsibilities

• Performs fire inspections of businesses, facilities and places of public assembly to identify hazards and enforce fire codes.
• Instructs and educates the public on fire safety and prevention programs.
• Coordinates fire investigations with the County Fire Marshal’s Office and other agencies; participates in emergency response as needed.
