Job summary

The City of Fairfield seeks a Fire Plans Examiner/Inspector III to join the Fire Prevention Division. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of the California Fire Code, Building/Residential Codes, NFPA standards and plan review experience.

Responsibilities include performing fire inspections, reviewing plans, educating the public, and ensuring compliance across residential, commercial and industrial structures.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience equivalent to Fire Inspector II with the City of Fairfield.
• Experience in plan checking involving fire protection systems and mechanical structures is desirable.
• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Associate degree in fire science, fire prevention, fire safety or related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and perform full range of fire inspection and prevention duties for structures including plan checking and permits.
• Inspect and test fire alarms, hydrants and suppression systems; educate the public in fire prevention.
• Oversee on-site inspections of fire protection systems; coordinate with other departments and agencies.
• Review maps and project plans for fire protection requirements; interpret codes and provide compliance guidance.
• Provide technical assistance at incidents and participate in public education and outreach.
