Job summary

WSP USA invites qualified students to join our Summer 2027 Fire & Life Safety Engineering Intern program in Boston, MA (with locations in New York, Columbia, Arlington, Dallas, and Houston). The 12-week internship offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to real projects alongside senior staff.

You will research codes, assist in designing fire protection systems, perform calculations, and learn basic Fire Protection Engineering under supervision.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Fire Protection Engineering program with an anticipated graduation August 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older and authorized to work in the United States.
• Interest in Fire Protection & Life Safety and ability to communicate with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of following directions from leadership and mentors to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.

Responsibilities

• Research building code, life safety code, and fire code requirements including ICC and NFPA codes.
• Assist in designing fire protection and life safety systems such as sprinklers, detectors, and egress.
• Prepare fire engineering calculations including smoke modeling and evacuation analyses.
• Assist in commissioning fire alarm, suppression, and life safety systems.
• Review drawings for code compliance and support design basis documentation.
• Coordinate with multi-discipline teams and support project schedules.
