Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a curious and motivated Life Safety – Fire & Life Safety Engineering Intern to join our US Energy Commissioning team. You will work alongside engineers and consultants on real-world building and fire safety projects, gaining hands-on experience across codes, systems, and site assessments.

You’ll learn how building codes and fire protection systems are applied to design and construction, with opportunities to contribute to technical reports and documentation while developing

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in fire protection, building safety, engineering, architecture, or building design and construction.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with building and fire code research and consultation.
• Support Fire Protection Engineers and Life Safety Consultants with project assignments.
• Assist with reviewing building plans and drawings.
• Learn how fire and life safety requirements are incorporated into building designs.
• Gain exposure to fire protection engineering and fire protection systems.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, and field observations.
• Document site conditions, inspection findings, and project information.
• Support the preparation of technical reports and project documentation.
• Work with experienced professionals to identify solutions to life safety challenges.
• Develop technical, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Explore different areas of Fire & Life Safety based on interests.
