Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a curious, dependable intern to join our Fire & Life Safety team in Boston. You will gain hands-on experience on real building and fire safety projects, supporting engineers and consultants across code research, plan reviews, and on-site observations.

You'll learn how codes, protection systems, and life safety practices are applied to design and construction, while developing technical, analytical, and communication skills in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
• Interest in fire protection, building safety, engineering, or design/construction.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with building and fire code research and consultation.
• Support Fire Protection Engineers and Life Safety Consultants with project tasks.
• Assist with reviewing building plans and drawings.
• Learn how fire and life safety requirements are incorporated into designs.
• Gain exposure to fire protection systems and life safety considerations.
• Help with risk analysis and identifying life safety concerns.
• Participate in site visits, inspections, and field observations.
• Document site conditions and inspection findings.
• Support preparation of technical reports and project documentation.
• Work with professionals to identify solutions to life safety challenges.
