Brief Description of Duties:
The Assistant Commander along with the Fire Services team will work together to protect life and property and provide fire protection and emergency services to all Stony Brook University facilities and surrounding properties. The employee accomplishes this task by carrying out general duties such as (but not limited to): fire safety and extinguisher inspections; emergency response to fires, fire alarms and other emergencies; conduct fire drills and assist with the development of building emergency plans; perform inspection and testing of fire protection systems; conduct fire safety training; participate in fire prevention educational activities and events; attend required training; and provide fire safety coverage for emergencies, impairments and special events. The successful incumbent must possess the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands, communicate effectively in verbal and written form, establish and maintain effective working relations with coworkers and other internal and outside agencies, as well as the ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
Evening and weekend work will be required at times.
