Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of experience as a firefighter; career, paid‑on‑call, or volunteer.
• Current Firefighter 2 certification from MFSCB or IFSAC.
• Current NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Operations certification from MFSCB or IFSAC.
• Current Emergency Medical Responder or higher license from Minnesota Office of EMS.
• Current First Responder Inspector (Fire Inspector 1) or higher.
• Must possess or obtain Fire Inspector 2 within 12 months of hire.
• Must possess or obtain Fire Investigator certification within 24 months of hire.
• Must possess or obtain and maintain Firefighter license from MN Board.
• FEMA IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 completed.

Responsibilities

• Responds to emergency incidents as a firefighter and maintains all minimum qualifications.
• Maintains and applies knowledge of applicable fire and life safety codes.
• Inspects existing and new buildings for code compliance.
• Educates owners/operators to bring facilities into compliance.
• Issues orders of correction and uses progressive enforcement to achieve compliance.
• Conducts inspections of various occupancies and prepares pre-incident plans.
• Assists with plan reviews and building specifications for fire code compliance.
• Investigates fires and explosions to determine origin and cause.
• Writes reports and maintains inspection and investigation documentation.
• Attends required training and performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Firefighter 2 certification (MFSCB/IFSAC)

NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Operations

Emergency Medical Responder or higher license (MN)

Fire Inspector 1 certification (MFSCB/IFSAC)

Fire Inspector 2 certification (MFSCB/IFSAC)

Fire Investigator certification (MFSCB/IFSAC)
