Job summary

Hanover County Government seeks a Lieutenant of Fire & EMS to lead and manage both career and volunteer staff in delivering fire and medical services. The role reports to a Battalion Chief and requires overseeing staff programs, HR documentation, and readiness of equipment and stations.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies, operating apparatus, inspecting fire safety measures, and coordinating volunteer involvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Career Firefighter/Medic.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and directs the essential functions of career and volunteer staff.
• Evaluates and completes human resource documentation for Fire/EMS personnel as necessary.
• Responds to alarms of fires, hazardous material incidents, and medical emergencies.
• Drives and operates various types of fire suppression, fire/medical apparatus, medical and other equipment as necessary.
• May conduct fire code and fire safety inspections.
• Coordinates cleanliness and state of readiness of station and apparatus, all related equipment.
• Examines patients and administers emergency care to patients as prescribed by medical control physician.
• Fosters volunteer involvement and membership to support a combination career and volunteer system.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Education
