Job summary

The City of Carmel is seeking an exceptional Fire Chief to provide executive leadership for the Carmel Fire Department, directing fire suppression, prevention, EMS, rescue, and major operations. Qualifications

• 15+ years of fire service experience, with supervisory/management responsibilities.
• At least 5 years at Captain rank or higher.
• Indiana certifications required as listed in ad.
• Strong leadership and decision-making under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for Carmel Fire Department operations and prevention.
• Set strategic direction, goals, and priorities and turn them into action.
• Lead, develop and empower firefighters and officers; nurture next generation of leaders.
• Serve as Incident Commander during major fires and emergencies; promote lessons learned.
• Make personnel decisions regarding hiring, promotion and discipline.
• Develop policies, programs and operating strategies aligned with community needs.
• Use data and performance measures to identify trends and guide decisions.
• Develop and manage the department budget with emphasis on readiness and stewardship.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
• Build partnerships with local, regional, and state public safety organizations.
• Collaborate with Mayor and City leadership across departments; be a visible representative.
