Job summary

Midland County Fire Marshal's Office seeks an Investigator to examine origins and causes of fires and explosions, reporting to a supervisor and working from office or field locations as assigned. The investigator will identify and address illegal dumping and nuisances while issuing notices of violations when needed.

The role requires five years in law enforcement investigations, a valid Texas Peace Officer License, and Arson Investigator certification from the TCFP within one year.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fire/arson investigation principles and related environmental crime laws.
  • Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience with investigations.
  • Texas Peace Officer License and Arson Investigator certification from the TCFP within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate origins and causes of fires and explosions.
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and timely task completion per MCFMO policies.
  • Prepare cases for presentation to the district attorney and provide court testimony when required.
  • Maintain records and develop summary data reports; assist in disaster or emergency incidents.
  • Educate the public on fire prevention and solid waste disposal; address illegal dumping and nuisance issues.
