THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL
SciensBuilding Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Systems Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities and experience. This position will work closely with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure a sound design, and seamless installation and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. This is a key position for our growing team and requires attention to detail in all aspects of executing projects. Customer and employee interface requires a high degree of effective human relations. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are important elements of the position.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)
- Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales departments for successful project execution.
- Produce field surveys and daily project logs of activity.
- Program and commission complex fire alarm systems leading to final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports in accordance with NFPA.
- Handle complex troubleshooting and provide effective resolution.
- Deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Program systems via laptop computers.
- Assist in overseeing project and vehicle inventory.
- Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians.
- Assist in managing job scheduling and progress efficiently and cost-effectively, with a focus on quality.
- Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers and explain proper use and responses to system signals.
- Comply with industry standard procedures and Sciens' safety programs and policies.
WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT YOU
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety industry.
- Ability to program and commission mid-range fire alarm systems independently.
- Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors.
- Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting for circuit issues.
- Intermediate computer knowledge related to software use and installation.
- Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units.
- Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72 code requirements for fire alarm system installation.
- Knowledge of relevant fire and building codes (e.g., Section 907 and 909 of the IFC and IBC, Article 760 of NFPA 70).
- State, local, contract, and product-specific certifications as determined by the business.
- NICET Level I certification.
- Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements.
- Ability to read fire system design drawings.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to work independently with some supervision.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
- Proficient in issue resolution.
- Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Physical fitness to perform demanding work, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, working from heights, climbing ladders, standing, and walking most of the day.
- Ability to travel occasionally overnight as needed.
- Ability to pass background checks and pre-employment drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
