Job summary

Century Fire Protection is seeking a Cost Estimator to support electrical and fire alarm projects in Duluth, GA. You will analyze blueprints and specifications to define scope and prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead for commercial and industrial fire alarm work.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of estimating experience in electrical or low voltage systems, strong math and analytical skills, and proficiency with Excel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years estimating electrical, fire alarm, or low voltage systems in construction.
• Strong measurement, math, and attention to detail for accurate bids.
• Experience reading blueprints, specs, and NEC/NFPA 72 guidance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze blueprints, drawings, specs to define scope and requirements.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead.
• Collaborate with sales, clients, PMs to gather information and resolve issues.
• Solicit quotes from suppliers/subcontractors and negotiate pricing.

• Identify risks and include mitigation strategies in estimates.

Overview

Century Fire Protection is seeking a Cost Estimator to support electrical and fire alarm projects. Location: Century Fire Protection, Duluth, GA 30096. Position Type: Full Time. The role focuses on ensuring the financial viability of projects by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates. Preference for candidates with experience in electrical systems, particularly fire alarm systems, and a strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Project Analysis: Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and other documentation to understand the scope of work and project requirements.
• Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead for commercial and industrial fire alarm projects.
• Collaboration: Work with the sales team, clients, project managers, and other team members to gather information and resolve issues.
• Procurement & Negotiation: Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, review bids for completeness, and negotiate pricing to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all estimates and supporting data, and prepare comprehensive bid proposals and presentations for clients.
• Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and integrate risk factors into cost estimates with mitigation strategies.
• Industry Knowledge: Stay current with industry trends, material costs, the National Electrical Code (NEC), the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code (NFPA 72), and relevant regulations to ensure compliance and competitiveness.

Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in electrical, fire alarm, or low voltage systems estimating within the construction industry is required. Field experience as an electrician or fire alarm/low voltage technician or an apprenticeship background is highly valued.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, fire alarm systems, low voltage system components, and installation processes.
• Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Education: High school diploma, technical school, and/or a combination of other education and extensive experience is acceptable.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications like a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), NICET certification in fire alarm systems, or an electrical masters license or low voltage license are advantageous.
