The Fire Alarm Technician role involves servicing, repairing, programming, and replacing fire alarm system products and panels to prescribed standards, often working independently across sites.

A candidate should have strong communication skills, be able to travel to multiple job sites daily, and stay current with code requirements and industry changes.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three (3) years of relevant work experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel to multiple job sites daily.
• Ability to read blueprints and use a computer.
• Strong communication skills and customer service mindset.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of fire alarm systems and tools.
• Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Perform fire alarm system repairs, maintenance, upgrades, and replace defective parts
• Perform programming on fire alarm systems
• Use device manuals to repair non-functioning fire alarms and restore alarms
• Feed cables and install wiring per system specifications
• Repair circuits and sensors following wiring and system specs
• Ensure compliance to fire and electrical codes
• Demonstrate systems for customers and explain causes of false alarms
• Educate customers on preventative care and maintenance
• Communicate daily with supervisor and dispatchers
• Complete and produce clear, accurate reports
• Invoice paperwork in a timely manner
• Stay current with code changes
• Attend required safety training

Fire Alarm Technician

The Fire Alarm Technician is primarily responsible for servicing, repairing, programming, and replacing Fire Alarm system products and panels to the prescribed standards, identifying code and non-conformance issues, and preparing accurate and timely service ticket reports. A desired candidate performs the full job despite site and weather conditions, can work independently with little supervision, has excellent communication skills, and is consistently looking out for the customer and company’s best interest.

Responsibilities

• Perform fire alarm system repairs, maintenance, upgrades, and replace defective parts
• Perform programming on fire alarm systems
• Use device manuals to repair non-functioning fire alarms and restore fire alarms to original functionality
• Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, or cavity walls to reach fixture outlets, positioning and terminating cables, wires or strappings
• Repair circuits and sensors, following wiring and system specifications
• Ensure compliance to fire and electrical codes
• Demonstrate systems for customers and explain causes and consequences of false alarms
• Educate customers on preventative care and regular maintenance to prevent system malfunctions
• Communicate daily with service supervisor and/ or dispatchers on project delays, requirements and general status of job
• Keep tools and equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, etc.
• Complete and produce reports that are legible, accurate and detailed
• Invoice paperwork in a timely manner
• Stay current with code requirements and industry changes
• Attend and complete all required safety training

Requirements

• Perform other related duties as assigned or required
• Valid driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) years prior relevant work experience
• Ability to travel to multiple job sites each day
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb ladders multiples times a day
• High precision/ detail-oriented
• Ability to use a computer and read blueprints
• Decent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently, with little supervision
• Knowledge of fire systems and tools
• Does not take short-cuts: work effectively and efficiently while performing all aspects of the required job
• Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions - climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet
