Job summary

Total Fire Protection is seeking a detail-oriented Fire Alarm Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates for fire alarm systems across commercial, industrial, and residential projects. The role emphasizes interpreting blueprints and specifications, building contractor relationships, and maintaining estimating tools.

The estimator will analyze plans, develop comprehensive cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and monitor market pricing trends to stay

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Proven experience as an estimator in the fire alarm or low-voltage industry.
• Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, NFPA codes, and local regulations.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick, or similar).
• Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software helpful.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documentation to accurately determine scope and requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with local contractors to identify new business opportunities and close deals.
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for fire alarm systems, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
• Monitor and evaluate market pricing trends to ensure competitive positioning.
• Maintain a pricing analysis system to track industry markups and adjust estimates for profitability.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to align estimates with goals.
• Conduct site visits to assess conditions and gather data for estimating.
• Maintain and update estimating tools, databases, and cost histories.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
• Assist in bid preparation and submission, including proposal writing and documentation.
• Stay current with industry standards, codes, and technologies related to fire alarm systems.
