Job summary

Johnson Controls invites applications for a Fire Alarm Designer role. The designer will lead fire alarm system design on Johnson Controls projects, guiding other designers and coordinating with CAD teams to deliver compliant, detailed submissions.

The candidate should have at least 5 years in fire and security design, NICET III (or II with III potential), NFPA 72 knowledge, CAD drafting skills, and strong communication. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in design of Fire and Security systems.
• NICET Certification Level III, or Level II with Level III attainability.
• Experienced with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code).
• Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV and/or Construction Industry.
• Drafting/CAD, pricing/estimating, and project management.
• Reading and understanding architectural/electrical diagrams.
• Knowledge of multiple electronic building systems.
• Understand mechanical interfaces to fire alarm systems.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Able to obtain licenses required by codes.
• Full-time schedule.
• Local travel.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and plans own workload and guides junior team members.
• Review initial designs for value engineering and code compliance.
• Coordinate with CAD Support to prepare detailed submissions.
• Oversee CAD submissions including drawings and calculations.
• Perform detailed calculations to meet code requirements.
• Attend design meetings and site coordination meetings.
• Develop bill of materials for construction.
• Review equipment applications and compatibility with specs.
• Assist Project Managers to support margins.
