Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. is seeking a Fire Alarm Designer to design and lead fire alarm systems for projects across the US. You will act as design lead on large, complex projects and direct other design team members, ensuring code compliance and thorough submissions.

The role requires 5+ years in Fire and Security design, NICET III (or II with III aim), NFPA 72 experience, CAD proficiency, and strong communication. A full-time remote US-based position offers growth and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in design of Fire and Security systems.
• NICET Certification Level III, or Level II with Level III attainability.
• Experience with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient CAD drafting, pricing/estimating, and project management.
• Ability to read architectural and electrical diagrams.
• Knowledge of multiple electronic building systems.
• Understanding of mechanical systems interfacing with fire alarms.
• Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Adobe).
• Strong written and oral communication.
• Licensing as required by codes.
• Full-time availability.
• Willingness to travel locally.

Responsibilities

• Design fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls projects.
• Lead design on large, complex projects and guide team.
• Plan workload and coordinate with CAD team.
• Review initial designs for code-compliant solutions.
• Coordinate with CAD Support Technicians for detailed submissions.
• Prepare project submissions with drawings and calculations.
• Develop bill of materials for construction.
• Support Project Managers to protect margins.
• Attend customer/site coordination meetings.
