Job summary

J. F. Ahern Co. in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a Fire Alarm Design Intern to gain hands-on experience designing fire alarm systems using AutoCAD-based software, performing hydraulic calculations, and creating project documents.

You will work with NavisWorks for BIM coordination, assist with building permits, and prepare close-out and operation/maintenance documents under the guidance of industry mentors.

Qualifications

• Prior AutoCAD experience and strong math/analysis are preferred.
• Candidates should be in good academic standing.
• Knowledge of the construction industry is helpful.

How you will contribute:

This is a great opportunity to use your education while playing a key role in various fire suppression system projects. As an Intern, you will exercise your attention to detail while designing the layout of fire alarm systems and special hazards fire protection systems using AutoCAD-based software. Additional responsibilities include computer-generated hydraulic calculations, submittal drawings to obtain required building permits, 3D BIM coordination using NavisWorks, project scheduling, on‑site field surveys, material stock listing for pre-fabrication, installation drawings, and preparing close‑out and project operation and maintenance documents.

What you need to qualify:

Prior experience working in AutoCAD and strong math and analytical skills is preferred. Candidates should be in good academic standing. Knowledge of the construction industry is helpful.
