Job summary

Ahern invites motivated students to join our Fire Alarm Design Internship in Chicago, IL. This hands-on role focuses on designing fire alarm and special hazards systems using AutoCAD-based tools, with involvement in hydraulic calculations and submittals for permits.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Design the layout of fire alarm systems and special hazards fire protection systems using AutoCAD-based software.
• Perform computer-generated hydraulic calculations and prepare submittal drawings for building permits.
• Coordinate 3D BIM using NavisWorks and assist with project scheduling.
• Conduct on-site field surveys and prepare material stock lists for pre-fabrication.
• Produce installation drawings and assemble close-out and operation & maintenance documents.

How you will contribute:

This is a great opportunity touse your education while playing a key role in various fire suppression system projects. As an Intern, you will exercise your attention to detail while designing the layout of fire alarm systems and special hazards fire protection systems using AutoCAD-based software. Additional responsibilities include computer-generated hydraulic calculations, submittal drawings to obtain required building permits, 3D BIM coordination using NavisWorks, project scheduling, on‑site field surveys, material stock listing for pre‑fabrication, installation drawings, and preparing close‑out and project operation and maintenance documents.

What you need to qualify:

Prior experience working in AutoCADand strong math and analytical skills is preferred. Candidates should be in good academic standing. Knowledge of the construction industry is helpful.
