Job summary

Ahern invites motivated interns to contribute to fire alarm design projects in Fond du Lac, WI. You will design layouts, perform hydraulic calculations, and generate drawings for permits while gaining hands-on experience in a real project environment.

As an intern you will be mentored by industry experts, work on live system installations, and gain exposure to BIM coordination and documentation for project close-out and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Experience with AutoCAD and a solid math foundation is preferred.
• Standing academically strong as a student is expected.
• Construction industry knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Design fire alarm system layouts and related protection systems using AutoCAD-based software.
• Perform hydraulic calculations and prepare submittal drawings for building permits.
• Coordinate in 3D BIM using NavisWorks and assist with project scheduling and field surveys.
• Prepare installation drawings and close-out and O&M documents.

How You Will Contribute

This is a great opportunity to use your education while playing a key role in various fire suppression system projects. As an Intern, you will exercise your attention to detail while designing the layout of fire alarm systems and special hazards fire protection systems using AutoCAD‑based software.

Additional responsibilities include computer‑generated hydraulic calculations, submittal drawings to obtain required building permits, 3D BIM coordination using NavisWorks, project scheduling, on‑site field surveys, material stock listing for pre‑fabrication, installation drawings, and preparing close‑out and project operation and maintenance documents.

What You Need To Qualify

Prior experience working in AutoCAD and strong math and analytical skills is preferred. Candidates should be in good academic standing. Knowledge of the construction industry is helpful.
